2012 Charteris The Winter Vineyard Pinot Noir

There’s no doubting PJ Charteris’ commitment to pinot noir, and here he has produced a multifaceted wine that drinks beautifully now and will cellar rewardingly.  It has 14 percent alcohol, is ruby red and has scents of berry pastille and potpourri.  Lifted cherry flavour displays on the front of the palate and raspberry, spice and anise fruit characters meld with well-judged savoury oak.  Spearminty tannins show at the finish.

Drink with: Barbecued duck and balsamic vinegar dressing
Ageing: Ten Years
Rating: 5 Stars
